    _AbdulAbdullah

Abdul Abdullah is a Perth-based artist whose practice primarily concerns painting and now incorporates an increasingly interdisciplinary approach. As the son of a sixth-generation Australian and a Malaysian Muslim, Abdullah describes himself as an 'outsider among outsiders'. This position grants him a unique perspective on Australian culture and what it means to be a Young Australian Muslim. Abdullah extrapolates this outlook to an examination of universal aspects of human nature, coming from a standpoint of deep understanding and empathy. His portraits reveal an intimate connection with his subjects and display his flair for bold statements.

Abdul Abdullah's recent solo exhibitions include Them and Us (Kings ARI, Victoria 2011) and Celebrations and Gold (Linton and Kay Contemporary, Western Australia 2011). He is the recipient of a number of awards and grants, including the Kickstart 2011 Grant (Next Wave Festival) and Observing the Human Form (City of Swan). In 2011, Abdullah was the youngest finalist in the Archibald Prize for his portrait of Waleed Aly.
