Graham Brindley uses a combination of found objects, finding an ambiguous place where drawing and installation intersect. His work is contemplative, inviting the viewer to engage with ideas of connection between the intellect and the primal. In his large work, The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, on found slate tiles, he carved his
stream-of-conscious thoughts, as he asserts, ‘referencing the significance of the thoughts, deeds and words that determine our true identity’. To explore these esoteric concepts, he often uses materials and processes linked to the earth, emphasizing this connection between our ideas and the earth we live on. Graham Brindley was born in the UK and is a Melbourne-based artist, who has been pursuing his practice, whilst teaching and fostering an appreciation of art amongst his students. He has recently completed his Masters in Visual Art at the VCA, Melbourne. In 2010, his work was exhibited in both Substance (Guildford Lane Gallery, Melbourne) and in the Masters Exhibition, Margaret Lawrence Gallery, VCA, Southbank. Graham Brindley has exhibited his work at the Toyota Emerging Artist Exhibition (Toyota Gallery, Port Melbourne 2011).
